About PCUPG

Pentecost Centre For The Study Of Unreached People Groups-Africa Launched

Pentecost University (PU) has launched a new research centre dedicated to the study of unreached people groups in Africa.
The Centre, known as the Pentecost Centre for the Study of Unreached People Groups-Africa (PCUPG-Africa), is a collaboration between the Pentecost University and The Church of Pentecost’s Home and Urban Mission (HUM).
Speaking at the launch ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua said God has reached all people’s groups in the world. Therefore, the centre will be a research and training hub to equip individuals to follow God’s footprints to all people groups in the nations.
The VC assured that the University will equip the Centre with cutting edge research materials and space to churn out relevant data for the spread of the gospel.
“Apart from that, the research and data from the Centre will be useful for social transformation and economic empowerment of people considered unreached,” Prof. Agyapong-Kodua added.
On his part, the National Coordinator for HUM, Apostle Emmanuel Agyei Kwafo, underscored the need for the study and engagement with people considered as unreached.
According to him, there are many people, who, due to prejudices, location, tribe, economic classification etc, have been neglected. As such, there is the need to deliberately study, understand, and map out effective missionary strategies to reach them.
He further stated that “research has shown that such neglected groups are more willing to hear the gospel than perceived.” Citing multiple statistics, Aps. Kwafo said the global data on Christianity will vary significantly as PU, HUM and other Christian bodies make efforts to reach the unreached.
The new Centre is part of the Pentecost School of Theology and Mission and is the latest addition to the Centres and Institutes of the research-led University model of PU.

The Pentecost Centre for the Study of Unreached People Groups Africa (PCUPG, Africa), Pentecost University in collaboration with Home and Urban Missions of The Church of Pentecost in Ghana present the 1st International
conference under the theme: Mission from the margins: reaching the unreached people groups in Africa. Global Christianity over the centuries has changed drastically since 1910, when what is often acclaimed as the first World Missionary Conference was held in Edinburgh. The Lausanne Movement reports that between 1910 and 2010, the number of missionaries increased from 62,000 to 400,000. However, irrespective of the increase in missionaries, churches, and mission agencies, there are still many unreached people in the world. Currently, there are 7,391 unreached people groups in the world, representing 42% of the world population according to the Joshua Project, an online mission research portal. The Lausanne Movement describes Unreached People Groups (UPGs) as people groups among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelise these people group (their own) without outside assistance.
